I am a fan of The Walking Dead television show and comic book so when I saw the first trailer for The Walking Dead: Destinies, I marked it down as a game to follow and see what happens. Despite the trailer not giving the best first impression, it sounded like it was going to have an interesting premise where you could make decisions and change the story. Well, the game is currently out on console and wow what a complete mess of a game. Please note, I have not bought or played the game myself ($50 for this??? LOL). I have watched livestreams and videos of the game to see how it plays, and below are my thoughts.
It is coming to the end of 2023 and The Walking Dead: Destinies looks like it's from the early 2000s. Some of the game's issues are: parts of the story are skipped or changed; some characters are missing and their actions from the show were given to other characters or to no one at all; cutscenes are like a PowerPoint presentation; the game is very, very, very linear; the crouch-walking animation is hilarious; controls are clunky (from what the players were saying in their videos); the dialog by the characters is bad (despite some of the lines coming straight from the show); the voice acting is bad; you'll hear the same voice lines over and over (two of note are: "My blood's boiling!" and "Adrenaline is pumping!"); sometimes zombies take multiple head shots to put down; and they added "Screamer" type of zombies, which aren't in the TWD universe.
The Walking Dead: Destinies game is straight up trash, do not buy this game. For years TWD fans have wanted a proper open world TWD video game on PC/consoles, but all we see are cash grab mobile games and now a trash game like this. This is really disappointing and makes me wonder if we'll ever see a good TWD game. "Gimme a break!" (Another over-used voiceline in the game.)
