Today Undead Labs had a stream where they talked about the history and development of State of Decay 2, as well as talking about and showing upcoming changes with a roadmap, see screenshot below. The biggest news is that the "Forever Communities" changes are coming in Update 30 in July and the infestations/hordes changes are coming at a later date as more work is needed on those.

I've also embedded the full stream down below which you can watch. It's fun to see a group of game devs/designers/etc get together and talk about their game, reminisce about the game and have fun. State of Decay 2 will be 4 years old later this month and they are continuing to update it, which is just awesome and not seen in most games these days.
