BF 2042: 'Have faith fam' dev reemerges and talks challenges with Frostbite engine

Battlefield 2042

Any Battlefield fan that followed the lead up to the release of Battlefield 2042 on social media/gaming media websites will remember the EA employee who famously said on Twitter, "Have faith fam" after it was announced that BF 2042 was being delayed (link). That guy was Jim Hejl (now former EA rendering engineer) and Crash Games found a podcast where Jim was a guest and he talked about BF 2042 and some of the issues they faced.

Some of the challenges the DICE team faced were with the UI, the hud, game optimization, game performance, lots of engine issues, and issues with game design animations. We've heard this before, that the Frostbite engine is hard to work with and has issues that other engines such as Unreal and Unity don't have. He also mentioned that it would be incredibly difficult to move Battlefield to another engine; and it's even tough for developers to make content for games using Frostbite.

That comment about making content in Frostbite is hard, is just incredible and really sad to hear. Frostbite is definitely holding DICE back and I am hoping they eventually moves onto a different engine that can provide the destruction the Battlefield series is known for. Definitely make sure to check out Crash Games video below.
