Battlefield 2042 Briefing - July 2021

Battlefield 2042

On Wednesday a new Battlefield 2042 briefing blog post was added to the BF 2042 website and it gave us some new information but it also included some of the info from the BF 2042 June briefing. I've listed below the more important information but you can check out the full briefing here.

Here is some new info along with some that was already mentioned in last month's briefing:

  • Specialists have a "specialty" and a "trait" which are unique to them and they can't be changed.
  • Squad revive is back but it will not revive squadmates to full health and it will take longer; whereas Specialists with the "Combat Surgeon Trait" will revive teammates to full health and faster.
  • Rocket launchers are in the "Equipment" category, so if you equip a launcher, then you won't be able to equip a medical crate, supply crate or another equipment item.
  • Differentiating teammates from enemies: "The series icons highlighting your team (blue) and squad (green) will make their return..."
  • Ranger, the call-in robotic dog is neither a "Specialty" or "Trait", which everyone can call-in via the call-in system, but there is a limit on the amount of Rangers there can be at any one time.
  • Ranger will follow you and protect you. You can also use them to scout and they can also self-destruct. And yes, players can put C5 Explosives on them.
  • Changes to the Conquest game mode: Sectors will have multiple flags that a team needs to capture in order for the Sector to be captured by that team.
  • The maps are so large that different game modes will use different areas of the maps.
  • Only the lobbies and rooftops are playable for the skyscrapers.
  • New maps will come via the live service. Also more info about what the Ripple Effect team is working on will be revealed to us during EA Play Live on July 22. (The rumor is that past Battlefield maps will be playable.)
  • Vehicles: players can still spawn directly into vehicles from the Deploy screen but vehicles can be called-in via a tablet interface by all players, no matter which Specialist you are using.
  • Call-ins have a "specific budget assigned to each team."
  • You will have a cooldown after calling in a vehicle.
  • Factions will have their own vehicles. There will also be vehicles available for all factions.
  • There is no "focus on naval specific warfare right now."
  • AI soldiers: they will be used for server-filling capabilities; players always have priority over AI when playing multiplayer; you cannot opt-out of playing with them.
  • There is no offline mode. Even when playing the solo mode with AI soldiers you need to be online.
  • Later this summer, they will test the cross-play functionality.
